Established by seven teachers, The Karnataka Lingayat Education Society (K.L.E Society) has been the torchbearer of education and empowerment since its inception in 1916. Over the years the society has evolved to a gigantic phenomenon that manages more than 300 institutions in every conceivable field of education and health care. With a visionary leadership of Chairman Dr. Prabhakar Kore, and members of Board of Management, the society’s institutions serve more than 138,000 students. Over 18,000 dedicated faculty and staff, work together to meet the high standards set by the management.

- KAHER has been recognized as ‘District Green Champion’ for Belagavi District, Karnataka State for successfully implementing the Swachhta Action Plan and Best Practices in the areas of Sanitation, Hygiene, Waste Management, Water Management,Energy Management and Greenery Management.
- The University is successively ranked as 4th and 3rd Cleanest University in the country by MHRD [Goverment of India] in Swachhta Ranking (2017-18 and 2018-19).
- The University is consistently ranked in the band of 55 to 75 rank on all India basis by National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF), Government of India.
- The University has a number of active collaboration with reputed international and national organizations and Universities for research, student and faculty exchange.
- Our Research Unit has been recognized as ‘WHO Collaboration Centre for Research in Maternal and Perinatal Health’ – First in souther India and only 6th in Private Sector in the Country. It is recognized by WHO, NIH (USA), ICMR, DBT, DST, has collaboration with Thomas jefferson University, Harvard University, King’s College, London and many others.
- The University receives funding for research in Maternal and New-born Health from NIH (USA) , USAID, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, among many others.
In a developing country like India, education is still a dream for many and this need has been identified and documented by education policy makers. The National Knowledge Commission (NKC) recommendations have been crafted to achieve the objective of tapping into India’s enormous reservoir of knowledge, to mobilise national talent and to create an empowered generation with access to tremendous possibilities. In this perspective, the role of Open and Distance Learning System (ODL) becomes important and unique. ODL can potentially bring various learning programs at one platform where students can pursue and complete their desired courses from anywhere; specially for those who cannot leave their current location to pursue their goals by use of advance technology.
